Dutch experience with Karsten tents in the UK We have bought our Karsten inflatable tent (280 x 280 cm) in 1994 specifically with de UK in mind. The previous year we nearly lost our traditional tent during a gale in Wales. The quality of our new Karsten tent was tested in the spring of 1994 within hours of arriving at Harwich. We camped near Manningtree and expertienced a gale force 11 that night. The next morning there was severe damage to virtually every tent and caravan. Except one: our tent! We travel twice a year to the UK and are still enjoying that same tent. It has survived virtually every wheathercondition thinkable, from flooding in the Highlands to icing up outside Canterbury. And it is very quick to put up and take down. Within half an hour the entire tent is ready including beds, kitchen et cetera. Taking it down in a wet condition (e.g. during rain) is no problem either: we dump it roughly folded in our Volvo Estate, put on the airco to get rid of the moisture, pump it up on arrival and the tent is still water tight! Moving the tent to a different pitch is no problem either: take out the pegs, lift it up with two persons, move it and peg it down again. The last advantage of the tent is its modular construction: sometimes when we are staying for a single night we only use the central tent. When we are staying longer we use the front tent as well including extension, effectively doubling the size of the tent. Higly recommended: the Karsten tent is truly 'ship shape and Bristol fashion', despite coming from another old port (Hoorn in the Netherlands). Wim Beukenkamp Haarlem, Netherlands
